Courtney and I were married seven years ago, but I haven’t looked at my wedding album in 2-3 years. We’ve probably only pulled it out 1-2 times since we’ve been married. Talking to some of my friends who’ve gotten married recently, it sounds like that’s not out of the ordinary.
Albums are a funny thing though. They increase in value over time. The farther you get from your wedding day, and the less you look like the young couple in that album, the more precious it becomes.
Have you ever looked through your parents’ wedding album? Do you remember how special that was for you? To see your parents at the same age as you were on your own wedding day, and get to relive the start of their marriage through their photos?
I remember. I can picture my mom and dad on the brown carpet of the church steps. My mom has a small wreath of flowers in her hair, and my dad’s in a brown suit with the same hairdo as he was sporting 20 years later. My grandpa Kienow has a huge beard that I was actually pretty scared of as a kid, and my other grandparents and aunts and uncles are all so much more youthful.
Have you ever seen a photo of your grandparents on their wedding day? Maybe it’s starting to yellow and the edges are getting frayed, but it’s not just history. It’s family history. They’re the parents of your parents.
Wedding photos increase in value over time. They’re really fun to look through as soon as you receive them, but they become more and more significant as time goes on. They’ll be hugely special to your children and your children’s children.
How are you planning on preserving your prints? Do you know where your digital files will be in 40 years? Digital photos are so convenient, but when it comes to longevity a paper print is still where it’s at.
My albums are all hand-bound, and are printed on archival paper that’s meant to last multiple generations. They’ll be there for your kids to flip through, and they’ll have the same pleasure of seeing what their parents looked like at their age as you’ve had. Getting good prints that tell the story of your wedding day and housing them in a product that will stand the test of time isn’t just for you – it’s for your descendants after you as well.
Here are some sample photos of my albums. They’re hand-built and guaranteed for life, and are the perfect final resting place for your wedding photos.
