Melissa and Ryan's Wedding, Dana Powers Barn CA
Thursday, January 7, 2010
This was a very special wedding to me. Ryan and Melissa are very good friends of Courtney and I - Courtney has known Melissa since 2001 when they met in the dorms at Cal Poly, and when Courtney and I started dating I had the privilege of getting to know Melissa too. Then Ryan came along.
Courtney and I had him under the microscope for the first few times we were around him. Was this guy good for Melissa? The first few times they left our house we would talk about what we thought about Ryan.
Shortly, Ryan and I became friends and would surf a few times a week together. He's a little quieter than many of my other friends, so it took me a few times to really warm up to him...but once I got an idea for what sort of man Ryan is, my questions (and Courtney's) of whether he was good for Melissa were totally washed away. He's an amazing guy, totally perfect for Melissa, and we couldn't be happier for the two of them.
I don't know if I've ever looked forward to a wedding more than theirs. It brought me to tears seeing her come down the aisle and the way he was looking at her, and I feel so proud to have been their photographer and to be able to get to know this amazing couple even more now that they're married.
Ryan and Melissa - this is the biggest CONGRATULATIONS I've ever mustered. We love you both and can't wait to hear about the honeymoons. :)
Venue: Dana Powers Barn
Flowers: April Flowers
Dress: Provonias

Recognize that bug? It's Ryan's, and is the same one that was in their engagement session. The inside of its roof was their guest sign-in. How awesome is that? They get to drive around with their guests' well-wishes on the roof of their car. :)

Absolutely Stunning!!
Ken. P-E-R-R-R-F-E-C-T!
killed it Ken. That b&w image of the bride and I'm assuming her father alone... WOW, epic. Also, excellent handling of a VERY large wedding party.
Hey man great work!! Love the photos!! And congrats on the feature on SMP.
Ahh, I love this! We loved DPB and almost went with it--and this wedding feels familiar enough that it's like I get a little peek of what it might have looked like if we had...Pronovias, April and the billy balls, burlap wonderfulness...So awesome! The bug roof is straight genius. Great work, as usual!!
Um... and I see why they ran it. Elegant, classy, and gorgeous.
Dude, you're raw. Just peeped your work!
Every single thing in this wedding was so well thought out. I love how your approach to it matches the creative and homespun feel too. I wanted to stand up and applaud you all after viewing this.
Oh and the best comment may have just been made over my shoulder. My husband came in as I was looking at them and said "I think we should get married again and do something like that for ours. And we should definitely have that guy shoot it for us."
Beautiful coverage Ken. I especially love the shot of the little kiss looking at you while he kisses his mom during the ceremony. The look on his face is priceless. I agree with Shari you did a fantastic job capturing all the details the couple put together for the big day. It's a beautiful set.
What a totally amazing set Ken! It looks like everyonoe had a really good time and the venue looks awesome!
beautiful set. your images are so crisp and clean. your a real talent!
Barn Weddings Rock! I wish there were more of them!
Gorgeous!!!!
Your work is awesome Ken! Love this wedding, esp love the boots :)
What an absolutely beautiful bride and wedding and couple. I can see why you cried when she was walking down the aisle, the look on his face is so emotional!
the shot of the girls against the barn wall. all day long that's my fave.
THe one of the little boy in the crowd during the ceremony kissing his mom is such a surprise. Love that shot!
The little boy is kissing me, his grandma. His mom was the prettiest bridesmaid.
...and his dad was the prettiest photgrapher.
best wedding yet, ken. :)
Dennis said it well, you killed it. Simply rocked this wedding. And congrats on getting it published too!!!!!
Great shots, I love what you captured. I shot a weeding at that same barn last year, and I love the area. I'm sure, like myself, you can't wait to shoot there again.
