Making a difference.

I’ve had this idea floating around in my head for a month or two, and I keep getting stalled out while trying to craft a really attractive announcement for it.  Problem is, the longer I wait the less likely it is to happen.

So here it is – a hasty announcement that I’ve very much been looking forward to:

For the coming months of December and January, you can book me to shoot your wedding for a $5000 donation to a worthy charity.

I haven’t got my list of “approved charities” put together yet, and will be working on that.  If you know of one that you’d really like to contribute to, run it by me and if we both think it’s a great idea, it’ll happen.

I’ll do up to 3 weddings in December and up to 5 in January.  ALSO, Kelsey will be doing the same! The same details apply for her, but the donation amount is $4000 and she’ll be doing up to 2 in December and up to 3 in January.

That’s a potential $60,000 that we could put together into making a difference for the hungry, the impoverished, the sick, the enslaved, the disadvantaged, and the taken advantage of.  I’m SUPER excited to be doing this and using my wedding photography to help those in need, and I’m beyond excited for you to partner with me in it.

It must be towards a cause that we’re both passionate about, and it must go to an efficient charity that we both agree is very well-run.

So here are the details.  For a $5000 donation to a charity that’s approved by both me and you, you’ll receive my standard Package 1:

-up to 9 hours of coverage by Ken and assistant photographer
-digital download of final images with copyright release
-online image gallery
-engagement session

If your wedding is within 4ish hours of SLO County (basically between Napa and Orange County and out into the central valley of CA), I’ll cover travel. If it’s farther than that, I’ll need you to pick up some of the travel tab. If you want an album or other product, standard rates for those will apply.

I will be taking 3 weddings in December, and 5 in January. Make the donation once we’ve both approved the charity, show me the receipt, and I’m all yours. Don’t forget that your gift to charity is tax deductible!

Email me! Book me! Let’s make amazing wedding photos and throw some serious cash at a worthy charity. I can’t wait to see what we can do together. I’m so excited about this!

…and just because no blog post should be without a photo, here’s one from my soon-to-be-blogged wedding of Annie and Trevor at the Dana Powers Barn.:)

Ken, I love love love your idea to donate to a charity. May I suggest Leukemia Lymphoma Society and Team Madyn? They are on the cutting edge of finding a cure. Today one of Madyn’s friends died-she was 2.5. Childhood leukemia is on the rise and adult leukemia is usually fatal. You would be a part of saving lives! I am grateful daily for people who gave to research 20 years ago when treatment was in its infancy. Without the gains made since then my granddaughter would not be alive today.

Glamping Engagement Session | Tim and Laura

glamping engagement photos

I am SO EXCITED to share these! Champagne, oak trees, a beautiful campsite, handcrafted rifles, flowers, olives, amazing cheeses…

Tim and Laura created a beautiful engagement session at Tim’s parents’ ranch in Paso Robles. They set up a campsite at the top of a hill overlooking some of the most beautiful country on the central coast, and we shot there. The technical term is “glamping” – glamorous camping! Laura is chief blogger over at Sweet Life a La Carte and puts up some beautiful content. Enjoy!

Really cool concept Ken, I don’t think I’ve ever seen this done. I love them ALL, but I really love how you captured her dress blowing in the wind. Really cool frames!

Windfall Farms Wedding - Laura and Tim -

[...] really, really glad I got to be a part of Laura and Tim’s story. From their amazing engagement session to their wedding at WindFall Farms I’ve loved being around these [...]

Two Years :)

My girl Lillian turned two on June 7. She’s the sweetest of sweet – Courtney and I constantly find ourselves in disbelief at how cute she is. She’s stolen our hearts just like her brother did before her.

I leave the house on wedding days and she says things like, “Daddy…..shooooot…a bedding?”

It melts our hearts.

When she gets tired, she loves to snuggle up near our necks, and she sucks a thumb on one hand and with the other hand pinches the skin on our necks. It’s so cute, but when it gets unbearable we ask her to stop and she does it to herself instead. If you ever see her standing around with her thumb in her mouth and her hand pinching the skin on her neck or someone else’s, you know it’s naptime.

We love this little girl more than words can describe.

Parenting is hard but it’s brought a whole new level of fulfillment. I used to hope for happiness all the time, but I’ve come to realize that the trials and difficulties we experience in parenting and marriage and life in general bring something better than constant happiness – they bring fulfillment. The challenges become plot points on our life story, and conquering them with our loved ones brings a fulfillment that’s more satisfying than being in a state of constant happiness could ever produce. Choosing to live life with Courtney and have the kids we’ve had has deepened the coffers of my heart, and allowed me to feel a satisfaction that I never would have thought possible.

Happy birthday, Lillian Heart.
